One of Australia’s hardest working street artists, Chuck Mayfield has been secretly working on his new solo exhibition. Transforming upstairs of the iconic Smith St retail store Vintage Garage in Fitzroy with his show ‘Expanse‘. Playing with light & luminescence to create a vibrant visual experience with his signature style of blending graffiti with fine art.

We got an exclusive behind the scenes tour from the man himself while he was working on his show and you already know it’s What’s Good!

Applying his trade from the illustrious Everfresh studios, Chuck specialises in aerosol and large scale murals. His work is influenced by graffiti, visionary, and classical fine art.

“I paint striking large scale artworks with an emphasis on lighting effects. I blend nature with vibrant unnatural colour to create dreamy moods that liven up a space.

My personal work is an expression of the human psyche using a mix of familiar imagery from day to day life and more mystical, fantasy elements. I aim to depict and transmit the metaphysical nature of human experience.“

“For years, Chuck has created large scale works in the public sphere and for private clients, but none have been so personally reflective as this. In its entirety, this exhibition is a study of the self, of reinvention, of acceptance, and a true introduction to the person behind the artist. Vulnerability is the challenge that Mayfield explores throughout this process; allowing the audience to see into his innermost beliefs and experiences – and by doing so, provoke a multi-layered cultural, creative, gender, and social exchange.“
